REPORTS
Checking Out the Roadmap
This section compiles comprehensive reports that guide the reader through the pathways and progress in the field of net zero emissions, hydrogen production and application, methanol production, and related technology development.
Clean Energy Technology Observatory: Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin in the European Union - 2024 Status Report on Technology Development, Trends, Value Chains and Markets
This report investigates the status and trend of Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO), except hydrogen, which are needed to cover part of the EU’s demand for renewable fuels in the coming years. However, the report focuses on hydrocarbons that may be produced from hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide; and that can be used as fuels.
Frontier chemistry: Helping to achieve a truly green and circular economy for Europe
In this CORDIS Results Pack, the EU Commission highlights the efforts of 14 projects funded by the European Research Council (ERC) that work within the green and circular economy for the development of more sustainable industrial processes.
Global Energy Transition 2025 Outlook
This forecast extends to 2060 to reflect the continued transformation of the energy system. The projection shows that while the energy system will have changed significantly by mid-century, in many areas the transition will still be in mid-stride. This 2025 report edition reflects the evolving energy landscape and policy environment, including insights on hydrogen production, applications and industrial demand.
Global Hydrogen Review 2023 - International Energy Agency
The Global Hydrogen Review is an annual publication by the International Energy Agency that tracks hydrogen production and demand worldwide, as well as progress in critical areas such as infrastructure development, trade, policy, regulation, investments and innovation. The report also outputs the Clean Energy Ministerial Hydrogen Initiative (Japan) and is intended to inform energy sector stakeholders on the status and prospects of hydrogen. The review aims to help decision makers fine-tune strategies to attract investment and facilitate the deployment of hydrogen technologies at the same time as creating demand for hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels. It compares real-world developments with the stated ambitions of government and industry.
Green methanol production from photovoltaics in Europe
This work analyses the potential implementation of green methanol from carbon dioxide capture in existing industries. The study also covers hydrogen fraction limits on existing natural gas grids.
Hydrogen Europe Reports
Hydrogen Europe is the European association representing the interests of the hydrogen industry. They regularly publish reports covering hydrogen-related technologies, market studies and industrial adaptation.
Impacts of photocatalytic hydrogen production on the European energy system
This paper analyses the impacts of increasing photocatalysis processes on the European energy system from the market point of view. The authors use an open-source model to optimise the energy system, covering the electricity, industry, and heating sectors with high spatial and temporal resolution. Photocatalysis deployments are investigated at various market shares by exogenously altering photocatalysis costs. The results show that integrating photocatalysis may need systematic adjustments since it currently lacks the flexible load attributes of water electrolysis.
Renewable hydrogen - European Technology and Innovation Platform
The objective of this joint position paper is to discuss and take a position on the role of hydrogen for a climate-neutral Europe from the perspective of both ETIPs. It discusses different hydrogen production methods, transport and storage; and its applications with a great emphasis on industrial adoption of hydrogen as an energy source.
